We had a visit and demo for a representative of the Kenyan Ministry of National Defence.  In preparation for the flight demos we did more testing and prep work earlier last week. This was taking place in Thetford Mines, which is halfway towards Quebec City, so here we are at the Thetford Mines airport:

Second Flight Day in Quebec

We had 3 successful flights, including a couple autopilot takeoff and landings. The heli was struggling with the winds aloft though and had trouble hitting the static waypoint locations. Intro to Jamie’s UAV Internship in Quebec

I am working with ING Robotic Aviation to develop a stabilized camera gimbal for their helicopter UAS. There is currently a gap in the market between expensive, military grade hardware and inexpensive hobby parts that we are creating a solution for. ING’s head office is in Ottawa and their Engineering department is located in Sherbrooke, QC where I am working.

Interview with Reliability Research MITACS Cluster

Stephen Dwyer and Nicolas Olmedo, two graduate students in Mechanical Engineering, along with Ziqi Wei from Computing Science, are applying their design skills to help a local company stay competitive by adding a cellular-connected fleet monitoring tool to its product line.  Their work is part of the MITACS Accelerate program that pairs graduate students and fellows with businesses for mutually beneficial research.
